Born in Denmark in 1942 Studies in the history of art in Copenhagen, London, Paris and Rome 1961-69. Graduated as Magister artium in art history from Copenhagen University in 1970. Awarded "The young art historian of the year" by Ny Carlsbergfondet in 1971. Research fellow at the Institute for Classical Studies, University of Odense, 1972-1975. Research fellow under The Danish Research Council for the Humanities 1975-1976. Associate professor in art history at the University of Copenhagen 1977-1982. Specialized in European art c.1460-1530, with a first preference for Flemish Book Illumination (The Master of Mary of Burgundy and the so-called "Ghent- Associates") and mass-produced prints (the xylographic Block- Books). Began in 1985 a systematic registration of the contents of the books of hours (and other illuminated manuscripts with Christian Iconography) in The Royal Library in Copenhagen.
